Women Take Record Number of Executive Jobs in the Fortune 500

Leaders of the Future

The number of female general counsel at Fortune 500 companies increased at a record rate with women holding 21% of the roles, according to a recent survey by the Minority Corporate Counsel Association.  Additionally, diversity is improving amongst female legal officers with 16% describing themselves as minorities.

Michele Coleman Mayes, General Counsel of the New York Public Library, and Former GC of Allstate Corp,  isn’t at all surprised by the study. In doing research for her book, Courageous Counsel: Conversations with Women General Counsel in the Fortune 500, she worked to create the increase presence of women general counsel in the Fortune 500. “I want people to recognize that this isn’t a trend, it’s the norm.”
